About Us

Are you a limited company?

Yes, we are registered in England and Wales with Companies House under registration number 14414787.

How long have you been in business?

Chequers Construction Ltd has been trading since 2022, however our directors have a combined experience of over 50 years in the trade, and over 20 years running a company.

Are you VAT registered?

No, we are not currently VAT registered, therefore all our quotes/invoices are VAT free.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, we currently hold public liability insurance at £10,000,000, Employers liability at £10,000,000 and contract works at £100,000. All can be increased if/when required.

Do you have a Waste Carrier Licence?

Yes, we are registered as a "Carrier, Broker, Dealer - Upper Tier" with the Environment Agency, Our registration number is CBDU510290

Will you hold any of my data?

We 

  • Emails/Call Logs
All emails and call logs are deleted after 6 months of no longer being required.
  • Personal Information
If we didn't carryout any work for you then your information will be deleted after 12 months from the expiry date of the quote/estimate we provided. If we didn't provide a quote/estimate then this would be 12 months from the date we last communicated with you. If we did provide a service for you then we would keep your information for 6 years from the end of the financial year the last invoice relates to (this would be the following April from the invoice date)
  • Estimates, Quotes & Invoices
All estimates, quotes and invoices are kept for 6 years from the end of the financial year they relate to (this would be the following April from the invoice date). This is a legal requirement from HMRC.
Are your workers employees or do you use subcontractors ?

We use a mixture of full time employees, part time/casual employees, and subcontractors.

Design & Setup

Can you help with an architect?

Yes, we can provide a full design and build service. We also have architects we work with that we can recommend.

Can you help with a structural engineer?

Yes, we have a structural engineer we work with that we can recommend.

Can you deal with planning permission?

Yes, we are more than happy to deal with the application process.

Do you include building control?

  Yes, we include building control where required in our estimates/quotes, this will be listed separately on the estimate/quote. If you would prefer to deal with building control yourself, then let us know and we'll remove it from our estimate/quote.

My project is permited development, do i still need building control?

  Yes, You still need to meet Building Regulations even if you don't need planning permission.

Can i choose who oversees my project?

  Of course, just let us know and we'll do our best to provide the site manager you have requested.

Who do i contact during my project?

  Before work starts you will be provided with the direct mobile number and email of the site manager who has been appointed to your project. 

What if i change the design/plans during the project?

 We understand you needs or ideas might change during the project, If you do change the plans during the project then we are more than happy to work with you to achieve your dream project.

Quotes/Estimates

Do you provide a quote or estimate?

Both!

With smaller projects we will provide a quote straight away.

With larger projects we will provide an estimate that is accurate to +/- 20%. Once you have drawings, planning permission, structural calculations and you are ready to proceed, we can provide an accurate quote in writing. If you already have everything in place and your ready to proceed on initial contact with us, then we can skip the estimate and provide a quote straight away.
Will i receive a full quote in writing?

Yes, we provide a full quote by email that can be viewed online and downloaded as a PDF file. If you prefer, we can post a printed copy.

Are there any hidden costs?

No, all our prices are clear and transparent. If your worried something is not included in our quote, get in contact and we'll happily answer any questions.

Is there a contract?

Yes, we will provide a contract via email with a PDF copy that can be downloaded. This can be digitally signed, but if you prefer we can provide a printed copy to be hand signed.

Some customers insist on a JCT Home Owner/Occupier contract which we are happy to provide. The cost for this is £35 +VAT.
Do you include skip hire or rubbish removal?

Yes, all our quotes include Skip hire and/or rubbish removal and is listed separately. Some customers request us to leave the waste for them to deal with which we are happy to do, Just let us know and well exclude waste removal from our quote.

Do you include a site toilet?

On larger projects we always include a site toilet for all site workers and visitors. This will be made clear on our quote. If you would like to remove or add a site toilet to the quote then let us know.

Payment

Is there a deposit?

Yes, a deposit between 5% - 25% of the contract value, up to a maximum of £5,000 will be required before work starts.


We may also ask for suppliers/sub contractors fees up front for bespoke items that need to be ordered and/or manufactured in advice.

What are the payment terms?

Invoices must be paid within 7 days from the invoice date.

We always ask for a deposit, this will be between 5% - 25% of the contract value up to a maximum of £5,000.


On small projects below £10,000, a deposit will be required, followed by up to 3 part payments, leaving 5% - 10% until final completion.

On larger projects above £10,000, we will provide a payment schedule that is agreed and signed before work starts. This could be either "milestone/phase" or "interim" payments with a 5% retainer.

How do i pay you?

Most of our customers prefer to pay by bank transfer, this is usually the most convenient and safest way to pay. You can also pay online or in person using a debit or credit card. We also accept cash or cheque.

Will i get an invoice?

Yes, We always issue an invoice when asking for payment.
